Some Obits from 2007

Not The Gloved One

Top beer expert Michael Jackson died this morning. Jackson dedicated more than three decades to the pursuit and documentation of the world’s finest beers, and wrote many books on the subject. He became known as the most widely published and influential author on beer. He developed a cult television series known as “The Beer Hunter”, and contributed articles to countless magazines and newspapers. Jackson was especially well-known for his particular passion for the specialty brews of Belgium, and his bestseller The Great Beers of Belgium.

Morning Advertiser beer writer Roger Protz said: “I’m in Germany at a beer conference and when I announced he was dead people were totally shocked - he was just so well-known. “He was the best - and always will be the best. His knowledge of beer is unsurpassable. His genius was to to be able to write simply and beautifully about beer. “He was a very private person but I enjoyed his company - he always had a really amusing story to tell about his travels.”

My note: This guy didn't co-write THRILLER. I have one of his guides and it was very helpful and well written. I found this article at this obit site: http://www.voy.com/60649/13665.html It's a very good site to learn about the deaths of famous (and not that famous) people but I wouldn't recommend joining. Still it's a sad day for beer guzzlers everywhere...RIP...

Actress Priscilla Alden died Aug. 24th 2007. She was 68. Although she only made less than a dozen movie appearances Alden will be forever remember by low buget film fans for her unforgetable performences in 2 movies: 1975's CRIMINALLY INSANE and it's sequel (12 years later!) CRIMINALLY INSANE 2 (aka CRAZY FAT ETHEL 2). She also starred in the simliar DEATH NURSE 1 & 2. All four were directed by Nick Millard/Nick Jones. Roles in other films included NINE MONTHS, BIRDY, STOLEN: ONE HUSBAND and QUEST OF THE DELTA KNIGHTS. Her last appearance was in a seldom seen version of TURN OF THE SCREW (also directed by Millard).

RIP: Screenwriter Charles B. Griffith died September 28th at age 77. He wrote many of Roger Corman's low budget classics including LITTLE SHOP OF HORROR, GUNSLINGER, IT CONQUERED THE WORLD, NOT OF THIS EARTH, THE UNDEAD, BUCKET OF BLOOD, ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, BEAST FROM THE HAUNTED CAVE, CREATURE FROM THE SEA, THE WILD ANGELS and DEATH RACE 3000. He also directed 5 movies and acted in a few. Other writing credits include: ATLAS, THE FLESH AND THE SPUR, ROCK ALL NIGHT, SKI TROOP ATTACK, PLEASE DON'T EAT MY MOTHER and DR. HECKYL AND MR. HYPE.
