2005

I just read that actress Teresa Wright died the other day. She was 86. If you grew up in the NYC area (where she was born) in the '60's & '70's and were a New York Yankeees fan you might be familiar with Miss Wright as she played Mrs. Lou Gehrig in PRIDE OF THE YANKEES. (Gary Cooper of course played "The Iron Horse") The film was a staple of the local TV station that broadcasted their games. (Ironicly that station now airs the rival Mets games!) They always showed it when a game was rained out under the appropriate title of "Rain Out Theater".

She was the only actress to be nominated for an Academy Award in her first three movie roles (THE LITTLE FOXES, MRS.MINIVER,PRIDE OF THE YANKEES). She is also one of the 10 actors/actresses who was nominated twice in the same year. Her other movies include CASANOVA BROWN (also with Cooper), THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, Marlon Brando's film debut THE MEN, SOMEWHERE IN TIME and THE RAINMAKER (her last in 1997).

I also wanted to mention the passing of Sandra Dee who died Feb. 20th at the age of 62. She made her last movie appearance in 1983 in the rarely seen LOST directed by Al Adamson!

Actor Jason Evers died March 13 of heart failure. He was 83. Although a familiar TV actor, Evers had a small but varied film career marked by his best known role as the head transplanting doctor (under his real first name Herb) in THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE! who kept his lover's head alive while searching for "the perfect body" to attach it to.

His other films include HOUSE OF WOMEN, TARZAN'S JUNGLE REBELLION (with Ron Ely in the lead), THE ILLUSTRATED MAN, THE GREEN BERETS, ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES, FER-DE-LANCE, A PIECE OF THE ACTION, CLAWS and BARRACUDA . He made his last film in 1981 but continued working in TV though the '80's. After a 9 year absence from films he returned in 1990 for a scene in Frank Henenlotter's BASKETCASE 2 (which also features an in joke on BRAIN).

Originally fron NYC, He was seen as a regular or semi-regular on the TV shows WRANGLER, CHANNING and THE GUNS OF WILL SONNETT (as the wayward gun slinging son of Walter Brennan).
